enabling effective response

coffee&climate

The initiative for coffee&climate (c&c) was founded by ICP and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in 2010. The idea was to develop a sector-wide answer to the challenges, climate change is posing to smallholder coffee farming families.

Since then, c&c is supporting smallholder coffee farming families and their communities to effectively respond to climate change, to increase their resilience, and improve their livelihoods. More than 133,000 coffee farming households have already been trained on c&c’s climate-smart techniques.

With c&c, ICP has established a network of partners that drive the needed change together. And more members are welcome to join the work.

Like all ICP projects, the work of c&c is coordinated and implemented by Hanns R. Neumann Stiftung (HRNS).

Join Our Climate Action

c&c is encouraging private companies and public partners to participate in its climate action. It offers lots of interfaces to work together:

  • Membership: More like-minded companies and partners are invited to join the initiative.
  • Communities of Practice: Learning groups of local actors and producers with first-hand experience, that come together to exchange and advance knowledge on site.
  • c&c toolbox: An open online platform with materials about climate-smart practices and tools, freely accessible to everyone in the world.
  • Training of Trainers: A service to actors in the coffee sector.
  • Cimate-smart Coffee Regions: A concept that invites all different actors in a region to come together and align their actions towards a climate-smart future of coffee.

The c&c toolbox

The c&c toolbox is an interactive web app on climate-smart coffee cultivation for smallholder coffee farmers and agronomists worldwide. It is free of charge and comes in different languages.

Accessible via smartphone, tablet, and laptop, even in low-bandwidth areas, the c&c toolbox offers climate-smart coffee practices, so-called "tools", in the form of easy-to-use step-by-step instructions. Farmers find practical instructions for the climate change impacts on their farm in the form of graphics, short videos and descriptions in local languages. Extensionists get valuable insights in a dedicated trainer section to support farmers in achieving climate-smart coffee production.
